Ancient Hebrews, and Jewish people today, celebrate Passover commemorating the plague that 'passed over,' sparing Hebrew boys while killing those who were not Hebrews. Jesus was celebrating Passover with his disciples at what Christians call the Last Supper. Remember the beginnings of Christian faith by partaking in the Eucharist, a meal instituted by Jesus as he said (mandated; from Latin 'mandatum' root of Maundy) to his disciples, 'This do, remembering me.'
7 p.m. Good Friday Service of Shadows, March 21.
On this night, the sanctuary has been stripped of ornamentation, as if in mourning, and the church observes a service of tenebrae, a word that means 'darkness' or 'shadows' that focuses attention on the darkness of a world without Jesus. The sanctuary will be lighted only by a few candles, which will be extinguished as the biblical story of Jesus' passion is read. End of this service reflects Christian faith.
