Portland has submitted a bid to host the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the Rose Garden.

The event will be held a month before the start of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.

'I feel pretty good about our chances,' says Mike Scanlon, general manager of Global Spectrum, which operates the Rose Garden.

Scanlon expects an announcement by the U.S. Figure Skating Association before the end of next summer. The Rose Garden was the site of the 2005 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

• Three Portland-area boxers won bouts March 8 at Ferndale, Wash. Mike Lucero improved to 12-12-1 with a sixth-round TKO that gave him the Washington junior welterweight title.
