CROOK COUNTY - Clackamas High School's softball team split in two games played here over spring break, yielding to Crook County 3-2 on March 26, and defeating Mazama 3-0 on March 27.

'I was surprised with how well we hit the ball [in the loss to Crook County],' said Clackamas coach Dom Giancola. 'It was very, very cold. The wind chill put the temperature at around 20 degrees, but we hit the ball better than I've seen us hit it in two years.

'We hit line drive after line drive. It's just that we hit it right at people.'

Victoria Scholes and Haley Phillips teamed up in the shutout of Mazama, combining for six strikeouts in a 3-hitter.

Senior Breeze Luikrofka headed the offense with a timely two-run base hit.

The Cavaliers (3-3, 2-0) were to return to Three Rivers League play this week, hosting Oregon City (6-2, 1-0) on Monday and Putnam (4-3, 2-0) this afternoon.
