SOFTBALL - Kelsey Kai hits game-winning line drive in the 10th inning
Kelsey Kai drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Reynolds softball team a 5-4 victory over Gresham in a game that featured more twists and turns than an episode of CSI.
The thriller of a game opened the Mount Hood Conference season for both teams on a cold, almost wintery night.
Pitcher Kelli Eubanks threw a good game for the Raiders, as she racked up 18 strikeouts and kept ahead of the Gopher hitters most of the night.
But Gresham almost stole the victory in the ninth inning when Ashley Billingsley blasted a home run over the left-field fence for a 3-2 Gophers' lead.
Reynolds was down to its last out in the botton of the ninth before Amanda Amador connected to allow Gabby Stover to score on a close play at the plate.
The Gophers took a 4-3 lead in the 10th before Reynolds won the game with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Kelsey Kai sent a two-out rocket shot over second base, allowing Jackie Murphy to cross with the winning run.
