Coach Mike Riley, defensive coordinator Mark Banker and offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf flew to Madison, Wis., after Wednesday's practice to speak at a Nike clinic. They were greeted at the airport by ex-Beaver O-coordinator Paul Chryst, now in that capacity with Wisconsin. The OSU coaches were expected back in Corvallis for Friday's practice.

• Since junior college transfer Vili Nau's entrance paperwork hasn't yet arrived from Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., the 6-6, 330-pound offensive tackle won't enter school at OSU until summer term. Another O-tackle, 6-6, 285-pound Una Smiley from Hawaii, arrived Thursday and will participate in spring drills.

• New assistant Reggie Davis will coach running backs and work Orange County and San Diego as his recruiting areas. Davis grew up in Orange County and recruited in San Diego during his three seasons coaching at Nevada-Las Vegas.

Assistant head coach Jay Locey will coach receivers after working with tight ends the past two seasons. Ex-Beaver Tim Euhus, a graduate assistant, will coach tight ends unless he signs an NFL contract. Gary Beck will be the GA for special projects and recruiting programs through July 1.

• Two talented youngsters already have caught Riley's eye - redshirt freshman tailback Ryan McCants and incoming freshman quarterback Ryan Katz, who graduated from high school early.

'(McCants) looks very comfortable, with all the time he spent last year on the scout team and with our (Sun) bowl practice,' Riley says. 'He steps in there like a veteran. (Katz) is pretty amazing. We've given him turns with the second group, and he functions very well already.'
