Born on April Fools' Day in 1918, Joyce Lorraine Lindquist Conibear of Gresham celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday, March 29, at the Gresham Elks Lodge.

The party for the career mother and wife was hosted by her children and attended by family and friends.

She was born in Turtle Lake, N.D., and came with her parents and seven siblings to Multnomah County to escape the Dust Bowl in 1935.

She graduated from Gresham High School in 1936.

She married James Conibear in 1938.

James was the head custodian at Lynchwood School and died in 1987.

Joyce's secret to a long life, she believes, is having 'a good, strong family background, keeping the mind busy and (having) many blessings.'

She has enjoyed traveling throughout the world, to Japan, Iceland, Italy, Germany and the Caribbean, and has traveled throughout the United States.

Her family adds that she is a cookie baker.

Her children are James Conibear of Boise, Idaho, Patricia Conibear Hobert of Olympia, Wash., George Conibear of Boring, and Mary Jo Conibear Lohrenz of Staten Island, N.Y.

She has eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
