Event marks Equal Pay Day
A panel presentation on unequal pay for women will mark Equal Pay Day at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Gresham High School cafeteria, 1200 N. Main Ave.
Admission is free to the event, sponsored by the Gresham branch of the American Association of University Women. They call the event 'Just Desserts' and, accordingly, will serve refreshments after the discussion.
Equal Pay Day is observed, says the association, because 'To match men's earnings for 2007, women will have go work from January 2007 to April 2008, an extra four months.' Equal Pay Day takes place in April to symbolize the point in the next year to which a woman must work to achieve pay equity.
The Equal Pay panel will be moderated by Cathy Sherick, special projects director for the Police Activities League. Panel members will be Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson, D-Gresham, Jessica Nelson, economist for the Oregon Employment Department, and Jim Aynes, Troutdale, attorney and historical panelist who served as counsel in California for the Department of Food and Agriculture, as well as various positions in Orange County and the city of Orange.
