Forest Grove shaved 20 strokes off its best team score of the year and took fourth place Monday at the Pacific Conference golf match at Forest Hills Golf Course.

The Vikings shot 332 as a team to finish 10 strokes behind third-place Tigard and 11 shots behind second-place Tualatin. Canby won the match with a team score of 300.

'We definitely took some steps in the right direction,' said Forest Grove coach Ron Romanick. 'We took over 20 strokes off our best score of the year. That's real encouraging.'

Senior Jesus Gonzalez posted the best round of the season by a Forest Grove golfer, shooting a 79 to finish seventh individually. Teammate Jarek Swanson shot an 81, Luke Peters an 86 and Joe Strother a 90.

'Tigard and Tualatin scored about what they've been scoring all season, so if we can continue to improve I think that's very encouraging for us,' Romanick said.

Forest Grove will be back in action next Monday at Tualatin Country Club.
