The homes at Walnut Creek are going fast

Part of the problem for this Legend Homes project is that there were only 54 parcels in the first place
TIGARD - As housing developments go, Walnut Creek by Legend Homes is something of a little gem.
There are only 54 lots in the project, located at the west end of Walnut Street, near Southwest Barrows, and the available homes themselves are modest in size (1,967 to 2,274 square feet) and relatively affordable in today's crazy market (starting at $351,900 and all below $400,000).
Walnut Creek is one of numerous developments taking part in the Ultimate Open House, a free event scheduled for two weekends later this month, Friday through Sunday, April 18-20 and April 25-27.
'All of these are great room floor plans,' said Leslie Fahey, director of sales for Walnut Creek, she said pointing to five different floor plans on the wall of the sales office.
'The masters are unbelievable,' she said, as she began a tour of a model home next door, this one the 2,204-square-foot Juniper, listed at $389,900. That home was also already sold, she added, the result of a big open house this past Sunday.
The model house, all decked out with furniture and accessories, features (like all floor plans in this development) a great room that includes a kitchen, dining and living area. The master bedroom occupies more than half the upper floor with a 9- by 10-foot 'retreat' area (perfect for a big-screen TV and some lounging furniture), a large walk-in closet and a good-size bathroom with tub, shower and plenty of storage. The other two bedrooms are sizable, and there's a two-car garage and a small study downstairs.
'These homes have sort of an old-world feel with new technologies and new ideas,' said Fahey. 'We've put storage everywhere we possibly can. The whole idea is to put the space where people use it.'
She also showed off other models of homes, all with similar, open floor plans, and in various stages of completion.
'These are all Earth Advantage homes,' she said, pausing to point out the high number of windows letting in plenty of light from outside, even on a cloudy spring day.
And, she added, 'We're the only builder in Oregon that has the window manufacturer (Medallion) do the installation.'
The only negative to this project, said Fahey, is that there are 'only 54' houses total.
In fact, she said, while the model in the sales office showed that five parcels had been sold, the weekend's open house resulted in another three sales. In short, they're going fast.
Legend Homes is known for its quality and craftsmanship, she said - it was voted the 2007 builder of the year by the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Portland - but Fahey thinks she has a little added advantage.
'I send people to the other Legend homes all the time,' said Fahey. 'But they don't have our floor plans.'
Other Legend Homes projects in the Ultimate Open House include much larger developments such as Edgewater on the Tualatin in King City and Victoria Gardens in Tualatin. Legend also has homes in Hillsboro, Happy Valley, Wilsonville and West Linn in the open house event.
