Next: The Beavers (15-10, 3-3) host Stanford (15-10-1, 4-2) at 5 today and 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Drew George continues to lead OSU in batting (.390). The senior from Lebanon has been erratic in the field, however, with a team-high eight errors. He has played third base most of the season but was used at first base in Sunday's game against Cal. 'Drew has the ability to be very good defensively, but he has been inconsistent,' coach Pat Casey says. 'If we just play defense at (third), we have two more wins, minimum.' … The Beavers also have used senior Lonnie Lechelt (.281) and freshman Garrett Nash (.313) at third. 'Garrett has been our most consistent defender there,' Casey says. But Nash also has a team-high 27 strikeouts in 64 at-bats.
• Catcher Ryan Ortiz (.378, three HRs, 30 RBIs) played first base in Saturday's Cal game, 'and he did a nice job there for us,' Casey says. That allowed the Beavers to use senior Erik Ammon (.300) at catcher. Ortiz has been solid behind the plate, too, throwing out nine runners attempting to steal.
