Now a bookstore worker, community college instructor, Mary Beaufrand writes historical fiction book
A former Gresham resident, Mary Jane Close Beaufrand, daughter of longtime Gresham residents Dick and Barbara Close, is the author of her first young adult book published by Little, Brown and Company.
Beaufrand, who lives in Seattle where she teaches writing at a community college and works in a bookstore, wrote 'Primavera.' The story, set in the Italian Renaissance, is historical fiction and features a young woman whose family clashes with the Medicis in 1478.
Beaufrand is married and the mother of two children, 12 and 8. She went to West Gresham Grade School, Dexter McCarty Middle School and graduated from Gresham High.
She majored in English and Russian at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, graduating in 1988.
While working at Microsoft in Redmond, Wash., she completed a master's degree in writing at Bennington College's Writer's Workshop, Bennington, Vt.
Her parents are longtime Gresham residents.
'Primavera,' built around Botticelli's famous work of the same name, is meant for ages 15 to 18.
It was released March 1 and is sold at major book stores.
