PUD warns of identity theft after rip-off

The drive-up payment box at the Columbia River PUD was burglarized over the weekend and customer payments were stolen, according to Libby Calnon, spokeswoman for the utility.
The break-in occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11, and noon on Sunday, April 13.
The PUD recommends that customers who made payments during these times take the following actions:
Contact your financial institution immediately to notify them of the theft and stop payment on your check.
File an identity theft report with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office by calling 503-366-4611. The PUD has filed a general report with the Sheriff's Office about the incident. The case number is 08-0464.
Contact the PUD's Customer Accounts Department at 503-397-0590 to notify the PUD that your payment was one of those stolen and to receive information on identity theft prevention measures and alternative payment options.
