Sherwood, with a big series ahead, shuts out Parkrose

Baseball: The Bowmen, Glencoe, start their series on Tuesday

The Sherwood High School baseball team is less than a week away from opening a showdown three-game series with Glencoe.

But, in the meantime, the Bowmen are making sure that they take care of business.

Sherwood improved to 10-0 in Northwest Oregon Conference play (13-1 overall) by scoring a 3-0 win over Parkrose in a league game played Tuesday at Sherwood.

'We're making sure not to look ahead,' Sherwood coach Jon Strohmaier said.

Senior Johnny Wade pitched the Bowmen to the win on Tuesday. He pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out five while giving up just three hits.

Sherwood struck for a pair of runs in the first inning. Senior Sam Karpeles singled in Wade for the first run of the contest. Bowmen senior Travis Setere plated Karpeles with a single later in the inning to make the score 2-0. The Bowmen added another run in the sixth inning. Troy Duppenthaler doubled to get things started. Pinch runner Charles Baugh then stole third base and scored on a squeeze bunt by Zach Spencer.

Glencoe (10-0 in league) and Sherwood will open their three-game series Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. game at Glencoe.
