Community Faith Forum will tackle violence

Wednesday's event will allow groups to collaborate and deal with issue on local level

The Inter-Religious Action Network of Washington County presents the sixth annual Community Faith Forum: Faith communities confront violence.

People from all religions and walks of life are invited to attend.

The forum will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center's Souther classrooms and auditorium, 9205 S.W. Barnes Road.

The 2008 Community Faith Forum addresses the issue of violence by gathering concerned citizens from local faith communities to collaborate and to deal with the issue of violence on a local level.

The forum will provide opportunities for participants to discuss ways to engage their faith community around the issue of violence and will provide time and opportunity to develop a follow-up action plan.

The half-day event features a keynote address by John Lenssen, an expert on diversity and cultural competency, as well as civil rights.

It will also include workshops on violence in schools, domestic violence and hate crimes.

To register for the forum, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, call 503-846-5792 or go to and click on the events tab.

The faith forum is sponsored by Providence Health and Services and Tuality Healthcare. Additional sponsors include the Bilal Mosque Association, Islamic Society of Greater Portland, Washington County Commission of Children and Families, Domestic Violence Resource Center and Starbucks Coffee.
