Under the management and direction of Gresham resident Ken Stine, a big jazz band is forming in Gresham with the help and encouragement of Gresham's Parks and Recreation Department.

Named 'East Winds,' this all-adult band is set to begin rehearsals in May and will perform regularly at various East County parks and other outdoor venues throughout the 2008 summer. It will be composed of 18 to 20 musicians and singers, professional and amateur, from East County and beyond. It will feature Jack Quinby, nationally acclaimed trombonist and recording artist.

Stine is the former manager and director of Portland Jazz, a well-known and accomplished big band featuring some of the best jazz musicians in the Portland-metropolitan area. Focused on the Gresham area, East Winds will perform sounds reminiscent of the big-band era.

Evening rehearsals will begin in May. Stine is looking for accomplished musicians who play trombones, trumpets, saxophones, keyboards, drums, guitar and bass. Musicians should contact Stine at 503-669-6425 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
