Pioneer girls sprint past West Linn

Belliveau and OC sprinters prove the diffence

OREGON CITY - Justine Belliveau and Oregon City's sprint crew played major roles, as the Pioneers took care of business in a girls track and field meet with West Linn on April 16.

The Pioneers prevailed 84-61, and they boosted their season record to 3-1 with the victory.

Belliveau was huge, earning 15 team points with wins in three events. The Pioneer senior leader headed a sweep with an effort of 33-6-1/2 in the shot put, tossed the discus 91-8 to lead a one-two Pioneer finish in that event, and cleared 5-0 to win the high jump over Ali Super on fewer misses.

Oregon City sprinters got the best of the Lions in both relays, and they outscored West Linn 25-2 in the three sprints.

Sophomore Sarah Doble (27.8) and juniors Megan Martin (28.3) and Amy Hermansen (28.3) went one-two-three in the 200-meter dash.

Doble (13.4) and freshman Lindsay Goff (13.8) went one-two in the 100, and freshman Kylee Cook (1:03.0) and Martin (1:04.6) placed one-two in the 400.

The Pioneers beat their guests 52.7 to 54.4 in the 400-meter relay, and 4:20.4 to 4:23.9 in the 1,600-meter relay.

The Pioneers also had winners in the pole vault (sophomore Anna Humphreys, 9-1) and high hurdles (junior Alyson Lamb, 17.9).

The Lions were toughest in the 800 meters, where Natalie Pittenger (2:26.9) headed a West Linn sweep.

West Linn slipped to 0-3 with the loss. Oregon City entertains Putnam (1-2) this afternoon
