Tualatin track teams score sweep against Newberg
TUALATIN - The Tualatin High School track and field teams came away with a sweep when they hosted Newberg in a Pacific Conference dual meet held April 16 at Tualatin High School.
The Timberwolf girls improved to 2-1 in league competition by scoring an 82-63 victory over Newberg.
Senior Amanda Chambers and sophomore Emily Wheeler each had a pair of individual wins to help the Wolves score the team victory.
Chambers picked up a win in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 5 inches and she triumphed in the discus with a toss of 108-6.
Wheeler ran to victory in the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 32.9 seconds. She also picked up a win in the 1,500 in 4:58.3.
Also on the track, Tualatin senior Sarah Price sprinted to a win in the 100 in 13.3. Freshman Meghan Brohoski won the 200 in 27.8. Junior Melissa Arndorfer picked up a victory in the 400 with her time of 1:03.7 and senior Kelsey Stilson won the 3,000 in 11:05.8.
The team of Mikaela Anderson, Brohoski, Price and Arndorfer won the 4 x 400 relay in 4:20.2.
In the field events, Timberwolf junior Kelly Millager cleared a season-best 5-3 to take first place in the high jump.
The Tualatin boys upped their league dual meet record to 2-1 by scoring a 101-44 win over Newberg.
Junior Phil Pauly had a big day for the Timberwolves in the victory. Pauly sprinted to a win in the 100 in 11.6, he won the long jump with a mark of 19-4 and he had a winning distance of 38-3 in the triple jump. In addition, Pauly teamed with sophomore Sean Acosta, senior Andrew Patton and freshman Taylor Altringer to win the 4 x 100 relay in 44.9.
Sophomore Terrence Lowry won both hurdles races. He ran to victory in the 110 high hurdles in 15.9 and he had a winning time of 43.9 in the 300 intermediate hurdles.
Altringer won the 200 in 23.7, Patton had a winning mark of 51.7 in the 400, junior Kevin Oliver ran to victory in the 3,000 in 9:23.9 and the team of Ryan Darling, Matthew Yarbrough, T.J. Fronius and Altringer triumphed in the 4 x 400 relay in 3:38.0.
In the field events, senior Dennis Ranck had a pair of victories in the throwing events. He won the shot put with a mark of 51-5 and he had a winning toss of 150-1 in the discus.
Senior Brad Schuetz cleared 5-6 to win the high jump and Jonathan Erickson had a winning height of 11-6 in the pole vault.
The Tualatin teams will next be in action at the Centennial Invitational, which will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Centennial High School. On Wednesday, the Wolves travel to McMinnville for a league dual meet starting at 3:45 p.m.
