Earl caps her career as 08 POY

by: MILES VANCE, SOUTHRIDGE'S ALEX EARL

There simply was no one better than Southridge senior Alex Earl this year.

The Arizona State-bound Earl accomplished everything imaginable during her four-year run on the Skyhawk girls basketball team, winning three Metro League titles, four state championships, a Metro League Player of the Year honor, and last week, honors as Oregon's Class 6A Player of the Year.

Earl, a 5-foot-10 point guard, averaged 15.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals this year while leading her team to its fourth straight Oregon big-school state championship.

And there were plenty of familiar faces joining Earl on the all-state first team - notably senior teammate Michelle Jenkins, another four-time state champ who will play at USC next year, and Westview senior Jackie Nared, who will play her college basketball at Maryland.

Sunset junior Laura Stanulis was named to the all-state honorable mention team.
