Two-time major champion John Daly heads the celebrity lineup for the second annual Pacific University Legends Golf Classic, hosted by Kiss lead guitarist Tommy Thayer.

The event is July 27 and July 28 at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Hillsboro and raises money for Pacific's athletics program.

Returning celebrities include 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel, former baseball stars Bobby Grich, Chuck Finley and Scott Erickson and ex-NASCAR driver Geoff Bodine. PGA pro Alex Cejka, ex-Pittsburgh Steeler running back Preston Pearson and others also are being enlisted.

• Fighting Irish football coach Charlie Weis will speak at the Notre Dame Club of Portland fundraising event May 7 at the Governor Hotel. Weis will talk about the 2008 season and take questions from the audience. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and dinner starts at 7 p.m. Individual tickets are $125, $100 for members. • Triathlete Mark Fretta, a 1995 Jesuit High grad, just missed in his bid to make the 2008 U.S. Olympic team. Fretta finished seventh in the April 19 trials at Tuscaloosa, Ala. The top two finishers earned berths.
