Gresham High School senior Ben DeRemer is raising funds to make a trip to the U.S. gymnastics junior nationals meet to be held next week in Battle Creek, Mich.

DeRemer qualified by placing seventh at the Northwest Regionals earlier this month in Beaverton. He scored a 76.7 in the all-around, making the automatic qualifying score by one-tenth of a point.

'We changed my routine to better fit with my strengths, so I was expecting a better score but I didn't expect that much of a boost,' DeRemer said.

The cost of the trip to nationals is approximately $4,200. His teammates at Top Flyte gym in Troutdale voted to pass on a season-ending pizza party, giving DeRemer about $350 to start his fund-raising campaign.

Those wishing to help with costs for his trip can donate at Top Flyte Gym, 27116 SE Stark, in Troutdale.
