Oregon City boys third in the county and Gladstone girls place fourth
OREGON CITY - Oregon City's boys team and Gladstone's girls team held their own at the Clackamas County High School Championship Golf Tournament, held Thursday at Stone Creek Golf Club.
Oregon City's boys team of Conner Boyd, A.J. Bell, Tommy Biesiadecki, Kevin Coffman and Casey Poore tallied 315 points, good for third place in an 11-team boys field.
Gladstone's girls team of Megan Hoover, Hayley Peterson, Charolette Wease, Krystal Alldritt and Lorisa Kennedy combined for a team score of 375, good for fourth place in the 10-team girls field.
The tournament, which gives teams from different leagues within the county the opportunity to compete against one another, was sponsored by Clackamas County and the Stone Creek Student Golf Foundation.
Canby (298) and Lakeridge (306) placed first and second respectively in the boys field. West Linn (322) was fourth and Clackamas (324) placed fifth.
Lake Oswego (361), Molalla (364) and Lakeridge (367) placed first through third respectively in the girls field. West Linn (384) placed fifth.
Amy Beth Simanton of Lake Oswego and Robbie Ziegler of Canby scored 71 and 72 respectively to earn medalist honors.
Ryan Pickthorn scholarship winner
Ryan Pickthorn, a Sunrise Middle School eighth grader, was named the winner of the Stone Creek Student Golf Foundation essay competition and received a $5,000 golf scholarship for his efforts. The scholarship includes 10 months of private lesions from a Stone Creek professional. Pickthorn took up golfing recently, when his physical education teacher ran a sports camp encouraging students to try something new.
