A Friday, May 9, party and auction at Persimmon Country Club will raise money for a dental chair for Dr. Bob Sayson, who gives health and medical care to the poor through the Good News Community Health Center in Rockwood.

The Gresham branch of Soroptimist International, best known for sponsoring the city's annual Teddy Bear Parade, is hosting for the second year 'An Evening at the Vineyard.'

The wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres and auction event is a replacement for the fashion show that the Soroptimist group held for many years. The event, which made about $10,000 last year, begins at 5:45 p.m. at the country club, 500 S.E. Butler Road.

Tickets cost $40, which includes wine and food as well as silent and oral auctions for gift baskets, golf packages, weekend getaways and services, the raffle of a diamond necklace from Goldart Jewelry in Gresham, a handmade afghan and an antique car tour with lunch included.

The Good News health center is a new cause for the Soroptimists, who also participate in the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. In addition, the service club of professional women provides support for domestic violence and homeless family shelters, monetary awards to teen volunteers for their charities, scholarships for single moms, endowment scholarships for Mt. Hood Community College students and financial aid for disaster relief.

The members estimate that the dental chair, which will help the health center launch dental care service, will cost about $5,000.

For reservations for the event call Vickie Kavanaugh at 503-294-5941.
