Firefighters from Portland Stations 20, 10, 23, and 25, plus a Clackamas County mutual aid engine, responded in the 5 pm hour of April 16th to a fire in a second-story apartment at 1642 S.E. Ellis Street.
They found thick black smoke in the structure when they arrived, and quickly knocked down the fire.
The adult female occupant of the apartment was treated at the scene, and then taken to Providence Milwaukie Hospital for smoke inhalation.
As shown, Ellis was completely blocked by fire equipment between Milwaukie Avenue and 17th for more than two hours.
Damage was estimated at $500 to contents and $65,000 to the apartment, but the other two apartments in the building were undamaged.
Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical circuit. There was a smoke detector in the apartment, but there was no battery in it.
