18-year-old Ashley Turner, for 6 years a member of the Meyer Boys and Girls Club on S.E. Milwaukie Avenue in Westmoreland, has been named the 'Youth of the Year' for the State of Oregon by Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
In addition to winning the prestigious title, Ashley will also receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader's Digest Foundation.
The local club notes that 'when Ashley was a freshman in high school, her father was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Ashley took on many of the responsibilities that he could no longer attend to, including taking his place at work for four months while he recovered.'
