Track and Field - Forest Grove runners try their luck at Centennial Invitational
As the 2008 track and field season winds down, Forest Grove is trying to rev up in preparation for district and state meets. So on Saturday, the Vikings sent their best runners, jumpers and throwers to Portland for the Centennial Invitational, a 39-team meet that featured some of the Pacific Northwest's top high school athletes.
In an extremely competitive field, Forest Grove logged three Top 10 finishes and a number of other notable performances. Senior Nick Wallace had the best showing of the day, finishing ninth in the boys triple jump (41 feet, 2.5 inches). Fellow senior Steven Boone took 10th in the boys long jump (20'9.5") and the 4x400 meter relay team of Boone, Eric Weinbender, Trevor Robbins and Nick Mulick finished ninth (3:34.10).
Elsewhere, Weinbender finished 13th in the boys 800 meters (2:01.14) and Nick Robbins claimed 13th in the 1,500 (4:17.30). Wallace added a 16th place showing in the javelin (160'11").
On the girls side, the 4x100 meter relay team of Elena Acosta, Heidi Acosta, Brandi Dawson and Taylor McCahon had the best showing of the afternoon with a 13th-place effort (52.96). Danielle Jackson finished 19th in the 800 meters (2:35.80) and Eredi Pintor took 20th in the 3,000 (11:31.16).
Forest Grove will wrap up the regular season with Pacific Conference dual meets against Newberg and McMinnville.
