The continued reformation of the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners would be helped greatly by the election of Mike Delman to replace retiring Commissioner Lisa Naito.
Six people are running for Naito's District 3 position, and one of the candidates must win the May primary with more than 50 percent of the vote to avoid a November runoff. Three of the six candidates can be taken seriously - Delman, Rob Milesnick and former legislator Judy Shiprack.
Of the top contenders, Delman has the best experience. A Portland native, he has deep knowledge of the district. He has worked in county government and in the nonprofit sector, and he is able to discuss in impressive detail his knowledge and ideas for county government.
There's much to like about Milesnick, who works for Oregon Dental Services, and Shiprack, who has county government as well as legislative experience.
But District 3 residents will get the best representation from Delman, who understands their needs and also knows how to get things accomplished at the county.
