Squad goes unbeaten over weekend

It wasn't an easy win for the Scappoose Invasion at the Beaverton Invitational on April 20, but the team fought through the wind, rain and hail to take first in the silver division.

The team opened the tournament facing the Beaverton Blaze '96 and the game ended in a 6-6 tie on Saturday. Hail and sloppy fields forced cancellation of the remaining day's games.

In the first game Sunday, the squad took on the Krushers and it went to the International tiebreaker, to settle a 4-4 tie. Finding themselves down 6-4, Katie Cordell reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on Sophia Hart's single. Both Cordell and Hart scored on Lexi Courtney's double to knot the contest again. Courtney scored the game-winner from second on Alix Raya's single into right field.

The squad had an easier time with Sherwood with a 16-6 win in five innings. Cordell, Syrina Revis, and Hailee Holmason had doubles in the game, while Courtney and Raya recorded triples.

The Invasion closed the weekend with a 9-4 win in a rematch against the Beaverton Blaze '96. Singles by Cordell, Raya, Courtney, Holmason and Lauren Watt, plus a two- run homer by Courtney contributed mightily to that win. The Invasion was the only undefeated team left in the bracket.
