Lake Oswego Police are cautioning residents to be on the lookout for e-mail phishing scams during tax season.

One officer reported receiving a scam e-mail that asked for bank account numbers to deposit IRS refunds. The e-mail included official IRS emblems and said a prompt reply would hasten deposits of the federal Economic Stimulus Refund.

Police say the IRS should have no trouble finding someone's bank account if they need it. Officers advise keeping bank account numbers private and steering clear of e-mails that ask for bank account information.
