Man arrested for drug-related shooting
Portland police arrested a man early Tuesday for firing a gun during a drug-related dispute.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Joseph Goldbacher, 53, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of possession of cocaine, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm in the city, discharge of a firearm in the city and disorderly conduct in the second degree.
According to police, at about 12:31 a.m., officers from East Precinct responded to the report of shots being fired in the area of 15920 S.E. Division St. Police were told that someone might have been shot and that several people were chasing the suspect.
Officers found Goldbacher in the parking lot of Montego's Bar. He was armed with a handgun when officers arrived, but dropped the weapon and was taken into custody.
Police learned that Goldbacher was in the area to allegedly buy drugs and apparently fired two shots from his handgun during a dispute with several people. One bullet hit the side of a building in the Anderson Villa Apartments. The other went through a fence and into the ground.
The other people involved in the incident did not remain in the area and have not been located.
