No surprises as Portland voters re-elect school board members

by: CHRISTOPHER ONSTOTT Ruth Adkins celebrates her reelection to the Portland Public School Board Tuesday night.

There were no surprises in the Portland Public Schools board race. Voters re-elected two board members and brought in two new ones.

Incumbent Bobbie Regan won a third term with about 63 percent of the vote, and Ruth Adkins swept in again with 73 percent. Each had two challengers.

Matt Morton overcame a close challenge by Maggie Brister-Mashia, winning with about 52 percent of the vote to her 30 percent.

Greg Belisle won his uncontested race with 96 percent.

Board members are sworn in July 1. Longtime board members David Wynde and Dilafruz Williams are stepping down, along with student representative Dina Yazdani.
