Bozena Rose McVay
Bozena Rose McVay died July 6, 2008 in Santa Cruz, Calif. She was 96.
She was born in l912 to Czecho-slovakian immigrants Louise and Louis Spousta in Menominee, Mich.
While she was in grade school her family moved to West Linn, to the parcel of land that is now Oswego Hills Vineyard. She is a graduate of West Linn High School.
She married Marvin Lindsay in l933 and they lived in Portland for l9 years and had their daughter, Stephanie. They divorced in l952.
In l957 she married Carl McVay and during this time she attended night school and became a dental assistant. The couple divorced in l964.
After retirement in l978, she moved in with her sister, Ann Metcalf, at their family compound in Lake Oswego. She became an active member of the Lake Oswego Grange and the Tualatin Senior Center.
In 2003, she moved to Santa Cruz County to be near her daughter and her family.
Mrs. McVay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Richard Shriver, two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Spousta, and her sisters, Helen Boone, Ann Metcalf and Camille Prescott.
Her ashes were scattered at sea on Monterey Bay in California. Contributions may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
Longtime Lake Oswego resident Ruth (Fancher) Mount died July 8, 2008 of complications from a stroke. She was 88.
Mrs. Mount was born Aug. 12, 1919 in Denver, Colo.
She married Paul E. Mount in 1942. He preceded her in death in 2002. The Mounts had lived in Lake Oswego for 45 years.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Ron and Sandy Mount and Tenny and Vickie Mount, daughter Lindy Mount; brothers Albert Fancher of Greely, Colo., and Clyde Fancher of Denver, Colo.; sister Shirlee Balsko of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at the family home, 14561 S.W. Doris Ave., in Lake Oswego.

Arnold James 'Arnie' Philichi died July 8, 2008. He was 73.
Mr. Philichi was born Feb. 27, 1935 in Portland and lived his entire lifetime in the Portland area. He attended Central Catholic High and graduated from Washing-ton High in 1954.
Mr. Philichi married Janet Louise Macnab on Aug. 2, 1970. They moved to Lake Oswego in October 1980.
A meat cutter by profession, Mr. Philichi served customers throughout the metropolitan area for more than 50 years. With his brother Darroll, he owned and operated Mack's Finer Meats from 1977 to 1990. He worked at Tualatin Fred Meyer's meat counter until shortly before his death.
Mr. Philichi was a member of the Paesano Club, Our Lady of the Lake Parish, United Food and Commercial Workers' Union Local 555, and the ASA Umpire Association for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Janet Philichi of Lake Oswego, sons and daughters-in-law Theodore 'Ted' and Lisa Philichi of Tacoma, Wash., and Matthew 'Matt' and MaryAnn Philichi of Gig Harbor, Wash., sister Judy Johnson of Vancouver, Wash., brother Jim Philichi of Portland and six grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary and a vigil were held July 14 and a Funeral Mass was held July 15 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. The disposition of Mr. Philichi's remains will be at Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery, Happy Valley.

Former Lake Oswego resident Rita B. Zehner died July 11, 2008 at her home in Grants Pass. She was 76.
Mrs. Zehner was born June 2, 1932 in Millville, N.J., to Stephen and Victoria (Mangiadi) Colican.
Mrs. Zehner raised her five children in Lake Oswego and worked at Village Drug. She went back to school and graduated from the registered nursing program at Portland Community College. She worked as a registered nurse until her retirement. She moved to Grants Pass in 1995, where she remained until her death.
Survivors include her companion John Evans of Grants Pass, daughters Donna Rita Waltz Davis of Tualatin, Linda Kay Wiley of Lake Oswego and Debra Lee Bickford of Knoxville, Tenn., sister Delores Schultz of Millville, N.J., brother Stephen Colican, Jr. of Millville, N. J., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Sons Chris Zehner and Doug Zehner preceded her in death.
No service is planned.

Ronda Westeren-Rise died July 8, 2008 of cancer. She was 45.
Mrs. Westeren-Rise was born Sept. 16, 1962 in Salem, to Ron and Marian Westeren. She grew up in the communities of Brookings and Bend and graduated from Bend High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Oregon State University.
She married Jim Rise on June 1, 1991, at the Jenkins Estate in Portland. The couple has lived in Lake Oswego for the past 16 years.
Mrs. Westeren-Rise was a wife and homemaker. She enjoyed volunteering at Forest Hills Elementary School, scrap booking, traveling, hiking and spending holidays with family.
Survivors include her husband Jim Rise, daughter Rachel Rise and son A.J. Rise, all of Lake Oswego; father Ron Westeren of Gig Harbor, Wash., brother and sister-in-law Eric and Linda Westeren of Redmond, Ore., brother Dan Westeren of Bend, and sister Lesle Witham of Portland. Her mother Marian Chapman Westeren preceded her in death in 1994.
A memorial service will be held 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 20 at Forest Hills Elementary School, 1133 Andrews Road in Lake Oswego. A potluck gathering will follow from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Foothills Park, 5000 Foothills Drive in Lake Oswego.
