A man suspected of stealing $7,000 from a video store in Lake Oswego led police on a foot chase for more than an hour in Tualatin Friday. The chase ended when a police dog sniffed the man out of a garden shed.
Lake Oswego Police arrested James Wesley Cassel, 31, in the incident. Cassel is charged with theft, escape and burglary.
He is a former employee of the Hollywood Video Store located at 131 N. State Street. The store reported a number of cash deposits missing June 25, totaling more than $7,000.
During the initial theft investigation, police learned that Cassel was also missing and perhaps involved, according to a news release.
Detectives tracked Cassel to a private home on Elk Horn Court in Tualatin on July 18. An ensuing foot chase led them over fences and through backyards.
A K-9 team from the Hillsboro Police Department joined the chase and ultimately found Cassel in a storage shed in a backyard on Southwest Siletz Drive. The search lasted about an hour.
Cassel was subsequently arrested and taken to the Clackamas County Jail. He has since been released on $15,000 bail.
