The Scappoose Lady Indians looked like they would hold off North Marion last Thursday and advance into the 4A state playoffs, but they couldn't make it happen.

The two clubs were vying for a chance to make the Oregon School Association 16-team state playoff bracket.

Scappoose had the early lead in the contest with two first inning runs, but North Marion tied the game in the second. It was tied again in the fifth inning, but Scappoose moved ahead in the bottom of the frame. That was the end of their scoring as North Marion knotted the score in the sixth and put over the winning run in the seventh.

The Lady Indians quashed a Husky threat in the first inning then put over two runs. Rebecca Krupsky reached base on a North Marion error, and Amara Templin was safe on a sacrifice bunt. Leslie Hancock hit into a fielder's choice, but an error left all three runners safe. Cassidy Hoglund followed with a single, but Templin was caught going home. A single by Cassie Foltz drove in the second run.

Two doubles and a single in the top of the second allowed North Marion to tie the score.

A hard hit at short put Hoglund on base in the third, and she scored on a first-base error.

The Huskies tied the game in the fifth with a run off an error and a triple.

Scappoose responded with a run when Krupsky singled, advanced on a sacrifice by Templin and scored on a single by Hancock. Hancock was caught going home on a fielder's choice.

North Marion tied the game in the sixth off a single, sacrifice and an error. Molly Reardon got a single for Scappoose with two outs, but a line drive to short squashed the threat.

In the seventh, a walk, a single, and an error sent what would be the winning run home.

Templin gave Scappoose hope when she reached base on an error in the seventh, but a fly to left, a play at first, and a line drive to short ended the inning and the game.

North Marion is slated to host Henley Wednesday and if they win they'll travel to top-ranked Baker.

Scappoose finished the season ranked 15th with an 18-9 record.
