The Lake Oswego Fire Department rescued three dogs (note cage in photo) from a burning home on Hillside Drive shortly after 3 a.m. Friday. It took 32 firefighters and seven fire engines to beat back the fire, which had already penetrated the roof by the time a neighbor reported it. Firefighters moved from the outside to the inside of the building in a search for occupants. They found the three dogs in the basement and all three were rescued without injury. The homeowner was not home at the time of the fire, which caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. No cause has been determined but officials say it appears the fire began in the attic. Two cats at home at the time of the fire have not been found.
