HILLSDALE - The Burlingame Fred Meyer store has closed for renovation to allow for a long-planned expansion of the 60-year-old building.

The Burger King that resided next door has been demolished.

During the $19 million remodel, the size of the store will increase to 91,000 square feet to allow for more room for products and services.

For now, Fred Meyer's pharmacy has taken up temporary quarters in the former home of Hollywood Video, located at 7461 S.W. Barbur Blvd.

Fred Meyer is scheduled to reopen its doors Sept. 2.
