Police look for suspects in bias crime attack on two men
- Portland Tribune - News
Two men were assaulted Sunday evening in downtown in what Portland police say was a bias crime.
Police said the men were holding hands while walking in Tom McCall Waterfront Park at about 8:30 p.m., May 22, toward the East Bank Esplanade. The men told police that as they walked, several men were behind them talking, laughing and pointing.
As the men reached the esplanade, they said they were pushed and punched by several people. One of the men was able to get away and call emergency dispatchers. The other man was pummeled during the assault.
Police were unable to find the suspects in the assault. The victims said there were several people in the area when the attack occurred but no one intervened.
