HILLSDALE - The Wilson High School varsity softball team clinched the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL) 5A girls' softball league championship at home May 16. The team defeated the Franklin High School Quakers in seven innings by a final score of 7 to 4 to bring home the title.

'The girls brought their best today and stayed focused during the last three games of conference play,' Wilson Head Coach Anna Cullop said May 16. 'I am proud of all of these young women.'

The Wilson team had been in a three-way tie for first place in the league. They defeated Cleveland High School May 12 and Franklin May 16, thereby securing the first seed in the state 5A playoffs. Their first state playoff game was played May 19.

On May 22, the PIL Athletic Department and the PIL Hall of Fame recognized the team at an awards presentation at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike campus in Beaverton.
