Christopher D. Ryder

Christopher D. Ryder of Lake Oswego died of cancer on Aug. 11, 2008. He was 59 years old.

He was born on March 28, 1949 at Emanuel Hospital in Portland and brought by boat to Lake Oswego by his parents, Vernon and Dorothy Ryder.

He attended grades K-12 in the Lake Oswego School district, graduating from Lake Oswego High School in l969.

He graduated from the University of Oregon in l972, and began his 31-year career with Portland General Electric in l973. He spent the last seven years of his career as vice president of regional operations.

He married Maureen Hall of Stayton, Ore. in l987, and the couple moved to Aurora, Ore. In l995, they moved to Dunthorpe, and then to Lake Oswego in 2004.

Mr. Ryder volunteered on numerous regional boards including Oregon Repertory Singers, Oregon Humane Society, Sunshine Division, Salem Economic Development Corporation and the Berry Botanic Garden.

His hobbies included remodeling homes, fishing, traveling and classic boats and cars. He enjoyed spending time in Central Oregon at Black Butte.

He is survived by his wife Maureen, his daughters Marissa, 20, and Andrea,18, and his brothers John Ryder of Eugene and Jim Ryder of Nashville, Tenn.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at 8th St. and A Ave. in Lake Oswego on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances be sent to Oregon Humane Society and Providence Cancer Center.
