To the Editor:
I have noticed that the new system of commenting on articles has drastically reduced the number of responses.
For me, the responses are my favorite part of reading the Review. I think the new policy should be scrapped, and the Review should allow comments like most other online papers.
Require users to register with a user name once, and then be able to comment thereafter without signing in. This will allow readers to see if the same user is commenting multiple times, allow the commenter to remain anonymous if they choose, allow the paper to monitor who is commenting and block those who abuse the system.
It would make the whole process easier to encourage more comments.
