Police arrested two juveniles for setting fire to a cottage at ChristieCare, a mental health treatment facility for youth in Marylhurst, Aug. 15.
Firefighters and police responded to the fire at the facility off Highway 43 after receiving a report of flames inside one of the resident's rooms.
Once inside, firefighters quickly extinguished a burning mattress and adjacent wall. There was an estimated $5,500 damage to the facility. All 32 people inside the facility were evacuated without injury.
After an investigation, police arrested two female juveniles, ages 13 and 14, for intentionally setting the fire.
They were both taken into protective custody and lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center in Portland. They are charged with first-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief and 32 counts of reckless endangering.
