The rescue dog that was recently reported stolen from the Walker Road PetSmart in Beaverton was recovered safe and well at the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter on Friday.

'We'd received a call from a very nice family that had found Sunny wandering in their neighborhood,' says Deborah Wood, manager of animals services for Washington County. 'One of our animal services officers responded to the call, and brought the dog back to the shelter, where we identified him as the missing Sunny.'

The dog was found near the PetSmart where he went missing.

'We are all very grateful that the family who saw Sunny running loose in their neighborhood called us and helped us reunite him with Northwest Animal Companions of Oregon. This is the kind of happy ending that makes our jobs worthwhile,' Wood said.

'I am so happy he's safe,' says Shirley Jennings of Northwest Animal Companions of Oregon.

The dog is being fostered by Jennings and her family. 'Not knowing was the worst. He looks great,' Jennings adds.

Sunny has gone home with the Jennings. The rescue group is looking for an adoptive home for the dog.
