Oregon Trail Education Foundation creates districtwide school calendar

The 16-month planner will list activities for the 2011-12 school year

Trying to track your child's events without a school calendar is challenging, but trying to track several children's events without a school calendar can be overwhelming.

The Oregon Trail Education Foundation will remedy this issue when they create a districtwide community calendar with all meetings, activities and events for the 2011-2012 school year.

Due to budget cuts, the official district calendar was eliminated for the 2010-2011 school year. The proposed community calendar will reinstate this resource and streamline calendaring for families with children of all ages.

'It's the lifeline for the parents and community,' said Kandi Allen, secretary of the foundation. 'We live by that calendar.'

Each school in the Oregon Trail School District will have a calendar month. The corresponding image will be selected from a student art contest. Participants submitted their art before May 20, and the foundation will select winners this week.

Besides having their artwork published, winners will receive a certificate of recognition and $10 gift card. Participants whose art is not chosen will receive a certificate for their efforts.

While the foundation is still determining calendar prices, its members anticipate selling the calendars throughout the district and community. Proceeds will go the foundation and will likely feed a fund for school grants, according to Allen.

Calendars will be available in August. The calendars are 16 months long, running from the school year and summer through December 2012.
