Bunkers Restaurant opens at Lake Oswego Muni Golf Course

New restaurant will also provide catering plus event planning services

You don't have to play golf like Tiger Woods - or play the game at all - to enjoy eating at Bunkers, the new restaurant located in the clubhouse at Lake Oswego Municipal Golf Course.

Jim Borovicka, a longtime influence on Lake Oswego's dining scene, has opened the restaurant. Formerly the owner of Blinn's Lakeside, Blinn's Boathouse and Jimmy's Smokehouse and Pizzeria, he is now focusing his culinary acumen on providing great tasting food at this new location.

'We're really excited to finally have good golfing weather,' Borovicka said, though business has steadily increased since Bunkers opened in April.

Bunkers' menu includes a variety of foods, some are 'traditional golf fare' and others more upscale.

Starters include handcut fries, sweet corn biscuits, prime rib chili and an assortment of organic cheeses served with olives, apricot chutney, marcona almonds and herb flat crisps.

Sandwiches offered include Reuben, clubhouse, the bacon, lettuce and tomato and Bunkers grilled cheese, served with handcut fries or green salad with gorgonzola vinaigrette.

Caesar salad and a spinach cherry salad are offered along with a variety of burgers and the classic foot long dog that fill out the menu.

Borovicka said dinner fare such as barbecued brisket and ribs will be served in the evenings, and breakfast will be served weekends starting in June.

All foods are prepared from scratch from local ingredients. Borovicka relies on local farmers for produce; Upper Crust Bakery provides the breads. Dairy products come from a Salem dairy, meats from Cascade Natural meat. No farm-raised fish is served.

In addition to serving a wide range of microbrew beer and wine inside, the restaurant is now licensed to sell canned beer and other beverages on the course.

Bunkers also provides full catering and event planning services. Big or small golf tournaments, dinner parties, wedding showers, rehearsal dinners or groom's golf lunches, charity events and fundraisers, children's parties and off-site business meetings can all be handled at the facility.

'It's a great size for a party,' he said. The central location and plenty of parking also adds to its attractiveness as a venue.

Though his contract with the city does allow him to close for two months during the winter, Borovicka plans to keep the restaurant open year round and already has several Christmas parties on the calendar.

Justin Shean, Borovicka's son-in-law, manages the front of the restaurant. The men have worked together since Shean went to work at Blinn's Boathouse.

Shean's wife, Vanessa, contributes her graphic design talents to the enterprise by creating flyers and other printed material.

'We are great option when you want to eat out. It's a beautiful setting,' Shean said. 'Come out and just enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Located at 17525 S.W. Stafford Road, Bunkers is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. As weather improves and tee times are scheduled into the early evening, the restaurant will be open later on weekends.
