Visit remodeled homes this weekend

by: File photo Vern Uyetake, Norm and Kathy Weseloh of Lake Oswego worked with Oswego Design & Remodeling to transform a dreary 1969 kitchen into something classic, yet functional, for today.

Need a change? Start at home.

Planning a remodel? Searching for ideas? Getting tired of flipping through the pages of magazines? Watch the before and after transformations come to life this weekend on the Oregon Remodelers Association's 2008 Remodelers Home Tour.

On Oct. 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. happy customers in Portland and Salem will open their doors to share their remodel projects.

The change in appearance of the projects run a spectrum of architectural styles and price ranges.

Twenty three projects will be showcased. The event is an opportunity to talk with the remodeling professionals that completed the projects, learn about kitchen and bathroom remodels - as well as whole house and addition projects - and gather ideas.

Tickets are $15 - available at www.oregonremodelers.com/ - and provide admission to both the Portland and Salem homes.

A Lake Oswego kitchen remodel will be featured on the tour and was profiled previously in the Lake Oswego Review and West Linn Tidings' Homes section on Oct. 25, 2007.

Home to Norm and Kathy Weseloh, the local project brought a 1969 kitchen to life. Staying within the original footprint of the house, Barb Friedman with Oswego Design and Remodeling created a kitchen that combined their needs and wants, and then some.

Before, the space felt tired, contained dark cabinetry and little lighting.

Now the space is functional for today - with a new layout that opened up the space, attached eating area that was once separated by a wall, huge island, more electrical outlets and a special space for the KitchenAid stand up-mixer. It's plugged in and in one swooping motion can be secured and ready to mix up a goodie.

Oswego Design and Remodeling (www.oswegodesign.com/) was awarded the NARI National Contractor of the Year in 2007 for the best kitchen in the U.S. over $100,000.

In the previous article, Friedman said, 'I enjoy the beauty of spaces we transform but really it's about relationships - it's about finding out what's really going to 'do it' for each client and making that happen - making their dream space.'

The tour may help you dream up ideas for your own home.
