Clarence Funk

Clarence Funk, formerly of Scappoose, passed away on May 31, in Utah where he was living.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery on Church Road.

Kajra R. Jauron

Kajra Rose Jauron of St. Helens lost her brave battle with cancer on May 25, 2011. She was 25.

Kajra Rose Jauron was born April 8, 1986, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland.

Residing in St. Helens her entire life, she attended Yankton Grade School, St. Helens Junior High and graduated from St. Helens High School in 2004.

Following she went to Northwest College in Powell, Wyo.; where she earned an Applied Science Degree in 2007, and made five wonderful friends, each of whom came to visit her this spring.

After college she came back to St. Helens, and went to work at Fresh Start Coffee, and then Chase Bank in Scappoose.

Possessing no greater love in life than that for horses; they were her true passion. She started riding and had her first horse when she was just four years old. She participated in Horse 4-H, the High School Equestrian Team, and the horse program at Northwest College. An amazing rider, her room was full of ribbons, awards and trophies.

Additionally, she was a member of the First Lutheran Church in St. Helens, and was baptized on Oct. 10, 2010, by Pastor Joe.

Loved by so many, she will be truly missed.

She is survived her mom and dad, Joy and Phil; sister Pia; horses, Scotty and Cupcake; and little black poodle, Henry.

A funeral service was held May 31 at the First Lutheran Church in St. Helens.

A private family committal will be held at the Old Scotch Church Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Donald D. Matthews

Donald Dean Matthews of Portland died May 23, 2011, at his home. He was 54.

Mr. Matthews was born March 11, 1957, in Vandalia, Ill., to Dean and Thelma (Darlan) Matthews, and was one in a family of 13.

Educated in Illinois, he moved to Oregon as a young man.

On June 21, 1986, he married Debra House at the Beaver Homes Grange Hall.

Employed as a welder, he worked for Oregon Steel Company.

Living in the area most of his life, he moved to Portland in 2008.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Debra Matthews; children, Rachael, Travis and Seana Matthews, Katie Hamilton, and Robin Tice; seven grandchildren; and siblings, Mike, Gary, Larry, Roger, Charles, Deanna, Judy, Bev and Elsie.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Beaver Homes Grange Hall.

Willie R. Vandergalien

Wille Rae Vandergalien of Rainier died May 26, 2011. She was 74.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at the Rainier Assembly of God Church in Rainier.
