Carlos Mariscal of Gresham, a Mt. Hood Community College student, was one of 100 students from Oregon selected as Ford Scholars, out of 4,618 applicants.
The Ford Family Foundation scholarships are awarded to students who meet merit and financial need qualifications. Scholars must attend an accredited nonprofit college in Oregon and be pursuing a bachelor's degree full time. The renewable scholarship covers 90 percent ($1,000 minimum, $25,000 maximum) of each student's unmet financial need for college each academic year, with first-year student awards averaging $6,910 per year.
Mariscal is a Gresham High School graduate and is studying electrical engineering. He will attend Portland State University.
Since 1994, the foundation's scholarship programs have awarded more than $100 million. For more information about the scholarship, visit tfff.org.
