by: David F. Ashton The impact of the collision was sufficient to fling one of the vehicles a half-block south of the intersection.

Traffic was light on S.E. Holgate Boulevard on the rainy Sunday evening of April 24 - but there were at least two cars on Holgate at S.E. 26th, and they ran into each other.

The crash sent the two vehicles careening a half-block south on S.E. 26th Avenue before grinding to a stop.

AMR paramedics were preparing a victim from one vehicle for transportation to the hospital, while the driver of the other was talking with a Portland Police Bureau (PPB) Traffic Division officer when THE BEE arrived on-scene.

'At about 10 pm, the driver of a Toyota Camry was traveling south on S.E. 26th Avenue,' PPB Public Information Officer Lt. Robert King reported. 'That driver ran the red light at S.E. Holgate Boulevard, and collided with a maroon 4-door Mitsubishi Galant.'

Lt. King identified the driver suspected to have caused the crash as 23 year old Matthew Shandorf. 'He was arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving, Refusing a Test for Intoxicants, and Failure to carry Proof of Insurance.' The condition of the injured person is unknown.
