Gordon K. Smith Jr.

July 3, 1931-April 29, 2011

An Estacada resident since 1957, Gordon Kenneth Smith Jr. died April 29 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 79. At his request, no services will be held.

Gordon was born in Portland on July 3, 1931, to Gordon Sr. and Ida Bertha Lambrecht. Raised in Portland, he graduated from Franklin High School in 1949. After graduation, he became an apprentice plumber, then went into the military in 1952. Gordon served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He returned home and married Ruth Crawford in Vancouver, Wash., on Dec. 22, 1952. He and Ruth settled in Estacada in 1957. He resumed his plumbing career after the military, working for the state of Oregon, Tektronix and Harder Mechanical. He also owned and operated GK Smith Plumbing in Estacada during the 1960s.

Gordon loved to spend time at his cabin in Marion Forks, located on the Santiam River, where he enjoyed fishing with his family and brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Jim Smith of Estacada, Dan Smith of Lewiston, Idaho, and Archie Smith of Chehalis, Wash.; brothers, Bud Smith and Bobby Smith, both of Portland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn; his brothers, Kenneth, John and Jim; and his sisters, Helen Flaker and Jessie Leonard.
