Fastpitch teams compete in three tournaments

Some teams will play at state tournament

The St. Helens girls fastpitch league held several small tournaments last weekend, determining champions in three age levels.

In the 10 and under tournament at Campbell Park, Vernonia beat Skinny's of St. Helens, 7-0 to take the championship on Saturday. Lower Columbia Engineering placed third.

Two tournaments were held at McCormick Park, a 12U and a combined 14U-16U tournament. There is just one 16U local team, The Pride, so they played with three lower age group teams, taking first in the tournament with a 13-4 win over the Wauna Federal Credit Union. Vernonia finished in third place.

In the 12U tournament, Pacific Stainless Steel eked a 6-4 win over The Cages. Meineke finished in third place.

The tournaments mostly finished local play for the teams with just a couple of make-up games to be played. Most of the teams will be participating in some other tournaments.

The Pride will play in a tournament in Portland next weekend, play in the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) state B tournament, July 8-10, and finish their season with another tournament in late July.

All of the other teams, 10U, 12U, and 14U will be playing in the state tournament in Albany, July 24-26.
