Local marching bands shine in Starlight Parade

The Clackamas and Milwaukie high school bands took top honors in their size categories Saturday night in the annual Starlight Parade, and Tualatin High School won a third-place band award.

Clackamas High School won first place in the 'In State Open' category, meaning marching bands with 100 or more members. David Douglas and Reynolds high schools came in second and third in that category, respectively.

Milwaukie High School won first place in the 'In State A' category, defined as marching bands with 99 or fewer members. Taking second and third place in that category were, respectively, Aloha High School and Tualatin High School.

The Rex Putnam High School marching band also participated in the Starlight Parade, which featured illuminated floats, costumes and even people.

Sweepstakes marching band winner was Evergreen High School of Vancouver, Wash.
